Hello valued members. I am proposing an initiative that will change the existence of BDC. The Blue Diamond Clan succeeded because it was one of the few places people could go to build simple relationships based on a common point, Nintendo Wi-Fi games. Unfortunately, Nintendo Wi-Fi sucked ass and hasn't much improved. So we expanded as a 'community'... We have spread ourselves thin. We have lost our niche. We have lost our identity. We've lost our purpose. Recruiting for our site, in its current state, will not work. We have no hook. We have nothing to boast. We have no notable competitive values, as a group. We're a bunch of old online friends, brought together by old drama and shared memories. Therefore I propose a new project that will further unite us. I will need your help. This will be a bigger change than the 2009 forum move. We are going to rebrand BDC, and become the first (and best) Nintendo 3DS clan. I know that not all of you will buy the 3DS. I'm still asking for your help, if you care about the friendships you've found among your clanmates. We started out as THE first and THE best Nintendo Wi-Fi DS clan. Now it's our destiny and our duty to live up to our origins and honor them. With the help of my two admin partners, I will rebuild this site even if it takes all summer. We have a plan of action already, and we want to lead you to a more complete experience. We don't want you to be ashamed of your "internet hometown". We want you to be able to say "Yes, I'm a part of BDC, and yes, I'm damn proud." Many changes will be made. We need feedback. We need you to pitch your ideas. We will *eventually* need volunteers. After E3, the tides will build up, and we want to be one step ahead. We have an established forum, but many older topics may be archived away. There may be a new banner. Hell, there may even be a new URL. Or two. Please be aware that we won't necessarily incorporate everyone's ideas, we're looking for some brainstorm fodder. I'm letting you all know you can expect some changes. If there is a change of URL, there is a slight chance that some of you may not be aware, so there will be an email or two sent out, make sure you verify that your BDC-associated email address is up to date. Revise my rate a game topic and use it. or make a new one. It promotes discussion and if most people will be likely to buy a game based on trusted members over a reviewer so if that mario kart DS GOLD comes along again more people will buy into that kinda game. Improve the chat room system so that when people go on the site they can see that people are in the chat room. make someone do blogs. it makes the site more personal same with articles. bring back clan meet ups at the proper time. obviously don't start most of these now but set it up so they can be done. get females to come here just saying. i will think of more later

Interesting. But, you've got to be reaaaally sure about this whole thing. Going back to "be a clan", even if it's for a whole different system is TOUGH. I'll agree that this is a good niche since it hasn't been done before. I'm impressed. Problem is, and I speak from personal experience, people HATE "clans in disguise". That means that even if you have a nice "portal" (for example, let's say Wordpress of Joomla), people will either ignore it or it will drive them away. Unfortunately, the majority of the Internet are RETARDS, so, you need to make it clear on what's your goals. And I'm not saying that you shouldn't leave openings for changes in the future. There's always a possibility where you'd want to change your goal again, so, might as well prepare yourself for it. What I'm trying to say, while you should make a new website, think of backup plans and backup plans to those backup plans. |

If you're going to rebuild the site and if you're going to include the people here, I'd highly suggesting being very transparent with what your plans are. It allows everyone to be involved and take owenership of the clan. Also, be wary about making a site based entirely around a console. BDC DID NOT start out as Nintendo Wi-Fi gaming site. It started out as a Mario Kart DS clan. But because Nintedo Wi-Fi was so wishy-washy and so many games were coming out that were worth playing, we expanded to some of the most popular games. The problem was was too little hands for so many things. Figure out how you're going to market to everyone. After E3, there's going to be excitement about the 3DS so you're going to have to think about how you're going to get people here and have them STAY. It won't be hard to get them here because they'll be excited about the 3DS, the problem will lie in what kind of content you're creating around the 3DS that'll make you more appealing than some other site focused on the 3DS. |

The hard thing about blogs is that it's hard to get people to write them. Keep in mind that we're planning on going back to being a clan and not just a site or community. |

One last note on a blog: We can have more than one person write it. In early versions of the Staff Writer position (my eternal post), there were more than one of us. Nix, SK, and I all collaborated on a newsletter long ago, and I think that worked out well. We all covered specific topics that related to BDC, but that doesn't have to be a strict division, and since we don't want 10 posts a day, it lowers the time commitment people have to put in. I don't think that we can really get a whole bunch into specific ideas without knowing more about the system and the early games that are going to come out for it. I am fairly confident that when they bring up the 3DS in the press conference, they'll also show us some early footage from games being developed for it, and it'll probably be mostly in house games. We need to be ready to hear about those games, and get stuff ready for those quickly. Like SK said, MKDS was the big one when we started, I think we almost have to predict which one will be the biggest and jump on that. Don't totally ignore the others, but pick one to focus a little more on. Also, the Wii games look to be amazing. I think we need to do a little bit of just plain E3 coverage, because we can expect more info about Zelda Wii, Other M, and Epic Mickey. |
